Please read the following information around the delivery the Covid vaccination programme at UCHC. 

Dr Murray and Partners are delivering this for patients registered at Ulverston GP surgeries (Dr Murray's & Dr Johnston's), Market Street Surgery, Askam Surgery and Duddon Valley Medical Practice.

The booking team have sent out some invitations for the first clinics this week.

They will continue to send out invites and add more clinics as they receive delivery dates over the coming weeks. 

If you are unable to use the link in the text message, please wait for them to contact you by phone to arrange your appointment - they have lots of staff currently phoning out to make bookings, so please be patient - they will be in touch.

 

The entrance is at the back of the building, there will be volunteers in the car park helping to direct you and a marquee up over the entrance so it is easy to spot.

There will be a one way system, similar to how we managed our flu clinics, so please be aware you will exit the building towards the front near to the pharmacy.

Covid Vaccine FAQ

Below is some information which may answer some of your questions.

Who will be vaccinated?

The vaccination will be prioritised to those most in need, particularly the elderly and those who are vulnerable and with pre-existing medical conditions.  

The central booking team are in the process of contacting the most vulnerable in category 1 and 2 to invite them for a vaccination.  Due to many in this group not having mobile phones, they are calling these patients.  they are working down the priority list, starting with the oldest.  For the first batch of vaccine, they only have a few days notice, so to ensure no vaccine was wasted, if they are unable to contact a person by phone, they continue down the list.  Those who they couldn’t reach will be contacted for the next batch due.

This priority list is as follows:

  1. residents in a care home for older adults and their carers
  2. all those 80 years of age and over and frontline health and social care workers
  3. all those 75 years of age and over
  4. all those 70 years of age and over and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals
  5. all those 65 years of age and over
  6. all individuals aged 16 years to 64 years with underlying health conditions which put them at higher risk of serious disease and mortality
  7. all those 60 years of age and over
  8. all those 55 years of age and over
  9. all those 50 years of age and over

What do I need to do if I want to get vaccinated?

The  Covid booking team will contact you and invite you to an appointment to be vaccinated when you are eligible based on your age and health.  It may be worth updating your contact details with your surgery to make sure we can send your invitation.

Do I have to get vaccinated?

The vaccine is optional but highly recommended.

Can I just turn up on the day without an appointment?

No. They have limited amounts of vaccine and plan the clinics around this. They will invite all  patients in the priority order as per NHS guidance.

How many vaccinations will I need?

Based on the latest government guidance, both Pfizer and Oxford vaccines require two doses, and these will now be given 12 weeks apart. 

Where will the Vaccination be given?

The vaccination clinics will be held at Ulverston Community Health Centre, Stanley St, Ulverston LA12 7BT. The clinics will be held at the rear of the building and you should not use the front entrance. Signage and volunteers will be on site to help direct you to the entrance.

Will there be parking?

Yes there will be designated parking for the clinics and there will be volunteers to direct cars.

What do I need to wear for my appointment?

You will be vaccinated in the upper arm.  When you arrive at the vaccination room, please remove your coat and come wearing a short sleeved top, so the clinician can easily access your arm.  You MUST COME WEARING A FACE MASK

What happens if I am delayed for my appointment?

Don't worry if you are delayed and miss your time slot. Please just arrive as soon as you can and the volunteers will be able to help you on arrival.

Do I need to pay for my vaccination?

The vaccination will be provided free of charge through the NHS.  

Why would a vaccine be needed if we can do other things, like social distancing and wearing masks, to prevent the virus that causes COVID-19 from spreading?

Stopping a pandemic requires using all the tools available. Vaccines work with your immune system so your body will be ready to fight the virus if you are exposed. Other steps, like covering your mouth and nose with a mask and staying at least 2 metres away from others, help reduce your chance of being exposed to the virus or spreading it to others. Together, COVID-19 vaccination and following NHS guidance to protect yourself and others will offer the best protection from COVID-19.

Do I need to wear a mask and avoid close contact with others if I have received the vaccine?

Yes.  The situation is evolving, but the current focus is to vaccinate as many people as possible, in order of priority based on medical need.  The current guidance remains regarding social distancing and personal protective equipment.  This will be reviewed in time and may be amended.

What should I do if I experience any side effects from the vaccine?

Patients will be provided with information on the vaccine they have received, how to look out for any side effects, and what to do if they do occur, including reporting them to the MHRA.

PRESCRIPTIONS

As of the 27th of November you must order you will no longer be able to use a 3rd party to order your repeat medication such as Pharmacy2U, Well. Echo or your local Pharmacy.

You can however order your repeat medication in one of the follow ways:

By using Patient access from your computer

By downloading and using the MyGP app on your smartphone

or by putting the repeat slip from your prescription (or a note with your details on and medication required) into the drop box located on the ground floor of the Health Centre at the bottom of the stairs.

You cannot order medication over the telephone.

We continue to offer telephone triage appointments and video consultations with our GP's and Nurses.

 

IF YOU ARE ASKED TO ATTEND THE SURGERY, ON ARRIVAL, PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE BUILDING UNLESS INSTRUCTED TO AT THE TIME OF BOOKING.

PLEASE WAIT IN YOUR CAR OR OUTSIDE IN THE CARPARK AND A CLINICIAN WILL CALL YOU WHEN THEY ARE READY FOR YOU.

All Patients attending for a face to face appointment must wear a face covering - please make sure this is in place before entering the building

 

Please DO NOT attend the surgery if you suspect that you have Coronavirous or have been contacted by the Governments Track and Trace Team . This is for the protection of our most vulnerable patients and our staff. If you did attend it could lead to the entire surgery needing to close for decontamination to be completed.

Medical Records

 

Lancashire and South Cumbria has been chosen by NHS England to be a national pilot for the digitisation of Medical Records.  Scanning these paper based records and making them digital will enable better utilisation of space, creating more clinical space, staff areas, multi team space and video hubs, removing the need for some practices to build extensions. In addition it will also make your record more easily and speedily accessible to clinical staff within your practice.

 

Your complete GP medical record will be digital and stored in a secure cloud based clinical system (only accessible by your GP practice) with the paper based records being securely destroyed following BS EN 15713:2009 Secure destruction of confidential material.  Your GP will still be able to access your records easily within this system. The scanning and destruction of the paper records will follow strict data protection guidelines adhered to by the NHS. As with paper based records, digital records are stored for the durations specified in the Records Management Codes of Practice for Health and Social Care. For GP patient records, this states that they may be destroyed 10 years after the patient’s death if they are no longer needed.

Dr Johnston & Partners is an established Small Practice and is part of Morecambe Bay CCG. We are based at Ulverston Community Health Centre in the lovely historic market town of Ulverston on the edge of the lake district. 

Our goal is to provide quality healthcare for our patients and community in a caring, professional and confidential environment whilst delivering the highest standards of healthcare. 

 

Our list size is just over 4470 and continues to grow at a steady rate.  We currently have an open list and welcome any new patients who wish to register with the Practice.

We have a professional and dedicated management team as well as an excellent reception, admin and nursing team.  They are always on hand to help our patients and provide them with the necessary information about the services we offer.

Our Practice has an established Patient Participation Group with whom we meet with on a regular basis.  We feel it's extremely important to listen to and involve our patients in improving and developing the services we provide.  There is more information about becoming a PPG Member in the patient group tab on the right hand side of this page.   

 CQC Rating

The CQC came to inspect our Practice on Friday 17th March 2017. The overall rating for our Practice was GOOD.
